Hey friends! Welcome back to another soul-nourishing episode of Nourished to Bloom. Today we’re diving deep into what success looks like with intuitive eating, especially if you’re making the leap from diet culture to a faith-oriented approach. If you've ever felt hesitant about intuitive eating or wondered what success would look like, this episode is for you!
In this episode, I'm clearing up the misconceptions and shedding light on the beautiful transformation that happens when you embrace intuitive eating intimately tied with your faith.
Episode Highlights:
🌼 Personal Hesitation: Understand why stepping away from traditional diet programs can feel daunting, and why the transformation with intuitive eating is more profound than just physical change.
🌼 Defining Success: Learn how success with intuitive eating can be challenging to measure due to its inward-focused nature, but profoundly liberating in creating a balanced, guilt-free relationship with food.
🌼 Intuitive Eating Misconceptions: Dispel common myths. Intuitive eating isn't about eating whatever you want, but about respecting and nourishing your body with intention and gratitude.
🌼 Christ-Centered Approach: Explore how this approach integrates faith by respecting our bodies as creations of God, promoting self-worth rooted in our identity as children of God, and prioritizing holistic well-being.
💬 Experience the Christ-Centered Intuitive Eating Shift:
- Focus & Motivation : Shift your focus from societal standards to honoring God and feeling gratitude.
- Relationship with Food : Move from control and restrictions to balance and nourishment without moral judgments.
- Self-Worth : Ground your self-worth in your divine identity rather than body size.
- Mental and Emotional Health : Experience reduced anxiety and better mental health.
- Purpose of Eating : Approach eating as nourishment rather than a set of rigid rules.
- Community and Support : Foster a supportive, non-judgmental community rather than one of competition and isolation.
I’m also sharing some powerful transformation scenarios you can expect when shifting from diet culture to a Christ-centered intuitive eating approach:
- Freedom from Food Obsession : Meal planning without stress and guilt.
- Healthier Body Image : Embracing and respecting your body as a creation of God.
- Social Situations : Gaining confidence and enjoyment in social dinners, free of anxiety or guilt.
- Less Spending on Groceries : More intentional and straightforward shopping.
- Emotional Resilience : Better coping with feelings without using food as a crutch.
- Motherhood: More meaningful engagement with family and less stress around meals.
- Self-Care : Sustainable health practices that promote overall well-being.
- Faith Integration : Combining healthy living with spiritual practices.
This week, let’s challenge ourselves to embrace a mindset of nourishment and self-love. Reflect on your health journey and consider how a Christ-centered intuitive eating approach could bring you closer to peace and abundance.

00:00:02
A lot of women are hesitant to try intuitive eating because
00:00:05
it's so different than diet and weight loss programs,
00:00:10
especially when it comes to being able to see
00:00:14
and understand and know what the transformation is,
00:00:17
know what the before and the after looks like. What are the
00:00:21
results with intuitive eating? We know that with weight
00:00:25
loss programs, success is really pretty black
00:00:29
or white, like either you lose weight or you don't. And that's really
00:00:32
how you determine the success of any sort of dieting and
00:00:36
weight loss program. So how do we determine the success
00:00:40
of intuitive eating? Because it's not focused on weight
00:00:43
loss or losing inches, it can be really hard to define
00:00:47
exactly what success may look like. And it can be
00:00:51
confusing because a lot of what you are seeing, maybe
00:00:55
on social media or reading about intuitive eating, is
00:00:58
people like walking around eating pizza and ice cream to
00:01:02
quote unquote, show off their newfound food
00:01:05
freedom. And the truth of that is, yes, they can eat
00:01:09
those foods just like you could eat those foods while also being on a
00:01:13
diet. But the difference is that they are not
00:01:17
riddled with guilt, and it doesn't lead to a binge
00:01:21
when they eat those foods. So what they're
00:01:24
really trying to show off is their relationship with food,
00:01:28
the fact that they can eat and enjoy these
00:01:31
foods in that moderation, in that
00:01:34
balance, and not lead to guilt and not lead
00:01:38
to a binge. And so they are really trying to show off that
00:01:41
relationship, that newfound freedom that they have
00:01:45
with food. But it can be really hard to put into words or
00:01:49
pictures for people to understand
00:01:52
what a before and after quote unquote picture
00:01:56
looks like when it comes to intuitive eating, since the results
00:02:00
really aren't based in physical appearance
00:02:03
changes. So in today's episode, I want to try to help
00:02:07
you visualize what these before and after quote
00:02:11
unquote photos may look like when it comes to intuitive
00:02:14
eating through using some different scenarios of what life is
00:02:18
like when you are a dieter, and how it can be
00:02:22
different, what it would look like once you become an intuitive eater.
00:02:26
So if you're curious what your own before and after
00:02:30
transformation could be, then this episode is for you.
00:02:35

00:04:09
to thrive. Hey there.
00:04:13
Welcome back to nourish to balloon. I'm Kara, and
00:04:17
today's episode is all about what success truly looks like
00:04:20
when you begin practicing Christ centered intuitive eating.
00:04:24
These aren't just stories of weight loss or achieving a certain
00:04:28
look, but it's really getting into real life
00:04:31
transformations that go beyond the surface into
00:04:35
areas like peace and freedom, joy,
00:04:38
and having a deeper faith, more trust in
00:04:42
your body, and more trust with your relationship around
00:04:45
food. And so we're going to go through some scenarios.
00:04:49
And I also want to kind of paint this picture of really
00:04:53
looking at some key differences around these.
00:04:57
These several aspects, and looking at it from what diet,
00:05:00
culture, what they kind of promote, and then what Christ centered
00:05:04
intuitive eating promotes. So that's really where we're going to start today.
00:05:08
And then we're going to get into some of these scenarios. I have nine
00:05:11
different scenarios for you of what these before and afters
00:05:15
would look like for someone who has gone from, you know, a very
00:05:19
dieting and weight loss focused approach to
00:05:22
nutrition and health versus what an intuitive
00:05:26
eating success story would look like. So
00:05:29
let's dive in. Like I said, I kind of want to paint
00:05:33
this picture of some key differences between diet, culture and Christ
00:05:37
centered intuitive eating around these specific aspects, one of
00:05:41
them being like focus and motivation. So when we're looking at what
00:05:45
is the difference between diet, culture and Christ centered intuitive eating
00:05:48
based off of its focus and its motivation.
00:05:52
So when we are really dieting and
00:05:55
we're engaging in those weight loss
00:05:59
practices, the focus and the motivation when it comes
00:06:03
to nutrition and eating is really all about weight
00:06:06
loss and appearance and meeting societal
00:06:09
standards, versus a Christ centered, intuitive eating.
00:06:13
The focus and motivation is really about honoring
00:06:17
God through honoring the creation
00:06:21
or his creation and honoring our bodies. It's about
00:06:24
having faith and surrender and trust in his good
00:06:28
creation of our body, and then gratitude for the
00:06:32
things that our body allows us to do, and gratitude for the food
00:06:35
that we can nourish our bodies with.
00:06:39
With. So let's look at, like, that relationship with food.
00:06:43
Diet culture promotes a relationship with
00:06:47
food that is based off of control
00:06:50
restriction, very much a good versus bad
00:06:53
foods mentality. Whereas Chrysler intuitive eating really
00:06:57
promotes a relationship that's based on balance
00:07:01
and nourishment, with no moral judgment when it comes to that
00:07:05
relationship with food. Now, self worth
00:07:08
diet culture promotes the self worth as it being tied
00:07:12
to a specific body size or following a specific diet.
00:07:16
Whereas Christ centered, intuitive eating, we're rooting our self
00:07:19
worth. Is it being an identity? It's rooted
00:07:23
in an identity as a child of God. Like, again, that inherent dignity,
00:07:27
that our self worth and our worthiness and our dignity is solely because
00:07:31
we are a child of God. And it is not dependent on achieving
00:07:34
any sort of success or accomplishment
00:07:38
of any nature. So diet
00:07:42
culture also can impact that mental and emotional
00:07:46
health. And it really promotes a lot of anxiety, a
00:07:50
lot of stress. We see a lot of people struggling with disordered
00:07:53
eating, that disordered relationship with food, like that
00:07:57
restriction, that good versus bad mentality,
00:08:01
and that moral aspect.
00:08:04
And then that can lead into, more specifically, eating
00:08:08
disorders, that clinically diagnosed eating disorder.
00:08:12
Whereas Christ centered, intuitive eating can really
00:08:15
support that emotional mental health through self
00:08:18
compassion and focus on a holistic well being.
00:08:22
Again, mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual
00:08:26
well being, all integrated with faith and really
00:08:30
promoting that holistic approach, that whole person
00:08:33
focus to well being. The purpose of eating. When it
00:08:37
comes to diet culture is really about
00:08:41
that transaction. It's a transactional type of thing, right? It's very
00:08:45
much transactional in the sense of, like,
00:08:48
it's this many calories, or it's this many macros, or it's this specific. This
00:08:52
specific food. And it's based off a set of external rules
00:08:56
that somebody made up for you to follow.
00:09:00
And there are, you know, when you look at the number of diet and
00:09:04
weight loss programs out there, there are so many different
00:09:07
rules and expectations, and so many of them are
00:09:11
contradictory to each other, that it can be really
00:09:15
stressful to try to figure out, you know, well, what rule is the best rule
00:09:19
to follow. What rule? Which rule supersedes the other
00:09:23
one? Whereas when you really embrace that Christ centered, intuitive eating,
00:09:26
it's really, again, that purpose of eating is about nourishment.
00:09:31
It's about taking care of your body. It's about being a good steward of God's
00:09:35
creation. So we're honoring God when we are
00:09:39
eating and really establishing and practicing mindful
00:09:42
eating. So being able to focus on what it is that we are
00:09:46
eating, being able to be attuned with our body and connected with our body to
00:09:49
understand what it is that our body wants and needs when
00:09:53
it comes to food and what's going to best be able to support
00:09:57
our bodies in promoting, you
00:10:00
know, what kind of nourishment or fuel we
00:10:04
need in order to engage in the activities that we're doing, but also what kind
00:10:08
of nourishment are we needing for long term,
00:10:11
long term health? We can also look at the community and the
00:10:15
support when it comes to diet culture. And it
00:10:19
really promotes a lot of comparison and competition and
00:10:22
isolation in the sense of you are constantly
00:10:25
comparing your success. You are constantly, constantly comparing
00:10:29
your body versus somebody else's. Did they lose more weight than I
00:10:33
did? So it becomes this competition, and it can be very isolating, especially
00:10:36
when you are not seeing the quote unquote success that others are
00:10:40
seeing. Whereas when we look at Christ centered, intuitive eating,
00:10:43
I mean, intuitive eaters, the
00:10:47
least interesting thing about a person is their body and what they are eating.
00:10:51
And so it really creates this more supportive, non
00:10:54
judgmental sense of community where, you know,
00:10:58
nobody is being judged based off of what they are eating, how many calories they're
00:11:01
consuming, or how much weight is lost. So it's really
00:11:05
allowing you to see a deeper
00:11:09
part of a person, not just this kind of surface level,
00:11:13
that kind of that diet culture mentality promotes.
00:11:17
So now I want to talk a little bit about some of these scenarios and
00:11:21
some of these transformations that if you were
00:11:25
to go down the path of healing your relationship with
00:11:29
food and your body, what could success look like for
00:11:32
you? And we're really going to start with a transformation of
00:11:36
freedom from food obsession. So as
00:11:40
a dieter, you may spend hours
00:11:43
planning your meals. You're constantly
00:11:47
stressed about being able to stick to your diet, not
00:11:51
falling off the wagon, not having to start over again on
00:11:54
Monday. You're counting calories or
00:11:57
macros or, you know, specific
00:12:01
nutrients, and you're avoiding foods you
00:12:04
have labeled as bad. And those labels
00:12:08
are coming from, you know, external sources.
00:12:12
And you find that if you eat anything, quote unquote, off
00:12:15
plan, that that guilt sets in and it can end
00:12:19
up ruining your day. Whereas after embracing a Christ
00:12:23
centered, intuitive eating approach, you look at meals
00:12:27
with a sense of peace and a sense of
00:12:31
an opportunity and a gratitude of
00:12:34
being able to care for your body that God so
00:12:38
loved you, to create you to
00:12:42
your soul, to live in the body that you are living in,
00:12:46
that you are now really focused on that peace
00:12:50
and that nourishment piece. So instead of obsessing over
00:12:53
every detail, every calorie, every macronutrient,
00:12:57
micronutrient, whatever it is, you're connected and you're
00:13:01
listening to your body. You're trusting your hunger and your fullness
00:13:04
cues. So mealtimes become a time of connection with
00:13:08
God, as you are able to give thanks for that nourishment that
00:13:12
he provides. And so you are now
00:13:16
able to focus on what truly matters, what things are meaningful
00:13:20
to you, your family, your friends, your faith, and your
00:13:23
purpose that God has for your life. So food no
00:13:27
longer controls your life, and you're free to live with purpose
00:13:31
without, you know, having to obsess or focus on
00:13:34
specific meals or following specific meal plans.
00:13:38
We can also look at a transformation when it comes to being able
00:13:42
to establish a healthier body image. So, as
00:13:46
a dieter, you've probably found yourself criticizing your
00:13:50
body, constantly comparing yourself to
00:13:54
others, walking past a mirror,
00:13:58
and constantly checking your body out to see, how does it
00:14:01
look? Does it look a certain way today? Or maybe you are
00:14:05
looking at certain pictures and you're critiquing every
00:14:09
single flaw that you see in that picture.
00:14:14
You may spend hours scrolling through social media
00:14:18
and harnessing and feelings that you
00:14:22
just aren't good enough because your body doesn't meet some sort of
00:14:25
societal standard for health and beauty.
00:14:29
But through Christ centered, intuitive eating and the healing that comes
00:14:33
with it, you've learned to view your body as a
00:14:37
temple of the Holy Spirit. You've learned to view
00:14:40
yourself the same way that God views you.
00:14:44
So instead of criticizing yourself, you
00:14:48
now are able to practice acceptance and
00:14:52
respect and gratitude for your body. You
00:14:55
thank God for the body that he created your soul to
00:14:59
live in, for the things that it can do and how it allows you to
00:15:03
serve others. So your motivation for
00:15:06
being active or exercising is no
00:15:10
longer about really achieving a certain look. It's really about
00:15:14
honoring God. So through this transformation, you are
00:15:18
no longer chasing after worldly desires or
00:15:21
worldly standards, but you are finding your
00:15:25
worth and rooting your worth in how God
00:15:29
sees you. Let's look at something a
00:15:33
little more practical. What does this look like, this before
00:15:36
and after look like when it comes to something like being able to eat
00:15:40
out? Um, I know for sure when I was in the
00:15:44
throes of dieting and weight loss, and you can probably relate
00:15:47
is eating out can make you feel
00:15:51
very, very anxious, you know, scanning the menu for the
00:15:55
healthiest option or worrying about being able to make the right
00:15:58
choice. And you're not alone in that. Many people struggle with
00:16:02
this. I mean, I can remember going through and like, looking up the menu online
00:16:06
so I could make sure that I could have a plan in place before
00:16:10
I went out to eat. And maybe you do that too. Maybe
00:16:13
you even avoid going out to eat altogether because
00:16:17
you don't want that temptation. Or you're worried about any
00:16:21
sort of guilt you might feel afterward if you're not
00:16:25
able to stick to that plan. But once you
00:16:28
go through that Christ centered, intuitive eating journey,
00:16:33
eating out comes with this peace of mind. And
00:16:37
before you choose your meal, it's about, you know, that connection
00:16:41
with your body, listening to your body's hunger cues, praying
00:16:45
for wisdom, and being able to connect with
00:16:48
your body and be able to make a choice and
00:16:52
trust that you'll make a choice that nourishes your body and you can
00:16:55
enjoy the food without guilt. And so, you know, dining
00:16:59
becomes an opportunity for something that's fun, an
00:17:03
opportunity to connect with friends or loved ones,
00:17:06
or to be able to celebrate rather than something to fear.
00:17:10
So you can find that food can be enjoyed as a part
00:17:14
of normal, everyday life, as well as
00:17:17
life's special moments. Here's another practical
00:17:21
one for you. Being able to spend less
00:17:25
on groceries and reducing food waste is kind of a
00:17:28
cool after when it comes to intuitive eating.
00:17:32
So dieting and weight loss programs tend
00:17:36
to have you spend a lot of money on
00:17:39
specific, quote unquote, diet foods, whether that be
00:17:42
special meal plans, special supplements, or special
00:17:46
snacks that these diet plans promote
00:17:50
you to eat to promise that weight loss. And
00:17:54
maybe you, or maybe you're just like, I'm going to eat
00:17:57
healthier. So you buy, you know, all of this fresh
00:18:01
produce, but then you find yourself just throwing food away
00:18:04
because either you didn't really enjoy it or you couldn't
00:18:08
finish it. But once you go through this
00:18:12
intuitive eating journey, you can find that
00:18:17
you're able to simplify your grocery list. You
00:18:20
no longer have to give into buying those expensive
00:18:24
diet products, but instead, you can focus on
00:18:28
purchasing wholesome and nourishing foods that you and your
00:18:32
family truly enjoy, as well as being able to
00:18:35
create and incorporate some of those, those fun foods that bring
00:18:39
more satisfaction into mealtime and
00:18:42
snacks. You're listening to your body's needs.
00:18:46
You are being able to create a meal plan that works
00:18:50
with your specific lifestyle and your specific food
00:18:53
preferences, which helps you promote and buying just enough
00:18:57
food without, you know, having this massive
00:19:01
amount of food that could go to wasteland. So not only has your
00:19:04
grocery bill decreased, but it also allows you to feel more
00:19:09
intentional about the food you purchase and consume.
00:19:13
So this shift also not only makes
00:19:17
your wallet lighter, but also your heart lighter. And it can really help show
00:19:20
you how that faith led wellness can extend into some of these practical
00:19:24
areas, like grocery shopping.
00:19:28
What about social situations or social gatherings? Because
00:19:32
I know that this is one that comes up a lot with people and intuitive
00:19:35
eating and kind of that hesitation. I'm just going to pause here
00:19:39
and kind of share a little bit of my own story about how social situations
00:19:42
were always so tough for me because I would give myself this pep talk of
00:19:46
like, okay, you're going to be good tonight. You're going to be good tonight. You're
00:19:49
not going to eat this, you're not going to eat that. But then it's like
00:19:52
you would get there and it's like, oh my goodness, that looks so good.
00:19:56
And it's usually something that you tell yourself you could never
00:19:59
have, and then you give in, right? You break that
00:20:03
food rule because that restraint and that restriction is just
00:20:07
impossible to maintain. And so you give in and
00:20:10
you eat it. But instead of being able to just eat one or maybe
00:20:14
two, savoring it, enjoying it, and move on
00:20:18
to, like, really be able to focus on what is important for that
00:20:21
evening, I would find myself ending up binging on that.
00:20:25
And I would do it in a really sneaky way to where it's like, I
00:20:28
would make sure people wouldn't have see that that's what I was doing.
00:20:32
So social gatherings that involve food
00:20:36
may cause you anxiety. Maybe you
00:20:40
find yourself that you restrict your eating beforehand, trying to
00:20:44
like, quote unquote, save your calories because you're afraid that you might
00:20:48
overeat or make bad choices. So there's this
00:20:51
added stress of trying to control your food intake, and that
00:20:55
can take away from the whole point of what that social gathering is about.
00:20:59
But after Christ centered intuitive eating, you now approach
00:21:03
social events with a sense of peace. Again,
00:21:07
you're seeking out and you're connecting with your body and that
00:21:10
internal wisdom that God has gifted you with, to be able to help
00:21:14
you choose and navigate food
00:21:18
that you will enjoy, that will bring satisfaction and nourishment,
00:21:22
and in a way that allows you to enjoy it. And then move
00:21:26
on and focus on the fellowship that that social
00:21:29
engagement allows you or gives you
00:21:33
opportunity to enjoy without fear or restriction.
00:21:36
You are able to eat mindfully, trusting your body to tell you when
00:21:40
you're full. And that's it. You just, I'm full and you're
00:21:43
done. And you leave those gatherings feeling
00:21:47
satisfied rather than laden with guilt.
00:21:51
So this freedom allows you to focus on truly enjoying the
00:21:55
joy of those moments and being able to connect with others
00:22:00
and blessings of fellowship.
00:22:04
You can also find that
00:22:08
intuitive eating will help you build greater emotional
00:22:11
resilience and change, really the way that you handle emotional
00:22:15
eating. As a dieter
00:22:19
and someone who's focused on weight loss, you may find that when you're
00:22:22
feeling stressed or you have difficult emotions coming your way,
00:22:26
you often feel like the only option you have is to turn to
00:22:30
food or alcohol for comfort. And maybe that's especially
00:22:34
things like sweets or carbohydrate type
00:22:37
foods. But afterwards, that guilt sets
00:22:41
in and then you're carrying an even bigger emotional burden. There's
00:22:45
more emotional weight that you're carrying around. So that food or that
00:22:49
alcohol didn't solve that problem, it just added
00:22:52
more problems to it. And you recognize that you have this emotional
00:22:56
eating struggle, and you just wish that there was a way that you could
00:23:00
figure this out well. Through Christ centered intuitive eating,
00:23:04
what you do is you learn how to better manage your
00:23:08
emotions and to develop better coping mechanisms
00:23:12
for when you find that stress or those
00:23:15
difficult emotions coming up, instead of automatically
00:23:19
turning to food, you are able to
00:23:22
establish coping mechanisms that
00:23:26
work for you, that work for whatever emotion that is.
00:23:30
Because each emotion, each way, each emotion that you're
00:23:33
feeling, there's probably different ways that you need to handle
00:23:37
that. One of the ways that I help
00:23:41
you with this is to help you be able to build
00:23:45
that spiritual well being, that spiritual connection. So when you are
00:23:48
feeling these emotions, you can turn to the Lord in this time to
00:23:52
be able to pray for peace or reflect on scripture and allowing
00:23:56
God's words to soothe your heart and allow him
00:24:00
to be that ultimate comforter. Comforter.
00:24:03
So you're going to find that you're not eating for
00:24:06
comfort. You're going to find that even if
00:24:10
you have learned to respond
00:24:14
to emotional eating in the
00:24:17
past, that with Christ centered intuitive eating, that you will now respond
00:24:21
with grace and compassion and be able to break
00:24:25
that harmful cycle of guilt and shame. So
00:24:29
over time, what happens is you rely less on food for emotional
00:24:33
support and you're able to rely more on your faith and build that emotional
00:24:36
resilience and a deeper spiritual connection.
00:24:41
This also can pour over into how we
00:24:45
approach motherhood. If you have been
00:24:49
constantly dieting and focused on weight loss,
00:24:52
you may find that you're so consumed with
00:24:56
that diet plan or that meal plan or trying to find the thing that quote
00:25:00
unquote works, that it distracts you from your
00:25:04
family. And you're not alone in this.
00:25:09
I dealt with this a lot in my own particular journey.
00:25:14
It's the meal prepping, it's the countering calories, it's entering things
00:25:18
into the app, it's worrying about your food choices. It's,
00:25:22
you know, sometimes it's feeding the kids and then, like, they're on to the
00:25:26
next thing and you haven't even fed yourself. And then you're like, well, if I
00:25:30
just skip this meal, then that's going to help me reach my goal, which is
00:25:33
not a healthy mindset. But you're left
00:25:37
drained with little energy for your kids or your
00:25:40
spouse. But after starting Christ centered, intuitive
00:25:44
eating, your priorities have shifted. You no
00:25:47
longer spend hours planning restrictive meals or worrying about what you're
00:25:51
eating. Instead, you make meals that nourish both you and
00:25:55
your family. So no more having to make separate meals. You
00:25:59
feel free to enjoy that time together instead of
00:26:02
mealtime. Being focused on, you know,
00:26:06
that worry or that stress of am I doing this right?
00:26:09
And this newfound mental energy
00:26:13
allows you to focus more on your children, allows you to be
00:26:17
more present and engage in meaningful family activities.
00:26:20
The other thing that tends to happen is you
00:26:24
are actually nourished. You are eating enough and
00:26:27
you no longer feel that low energy or that
00:26:31
sluggishness that comes with restrictive dieting
00:26:34
plans. So you're nourishing your body consistently throughout the day. So
00:26:38
you are constantly refueling and re energizing to allow
00:26:42
you to fulfill your duties and your responsibilities
00:26:46
of motherhood in a well
00:26:49
equipped manner. So this particular
00:26:53
transformation shows that when you free yourself from food obsession, you can give
00:26:57
more of yourself to the people that you love.
00:27:01
Let's talk a little bit about self care. So
00:27:05
maybe you've gone through phases of extreme dieting or intense
00:27:09
exercise, and a lot of times that is followed by
00:27:12
burnouth. You are just so done. Your weight has
00:27:16
fluctuated and you struggle to find balance in a
00:27:19
sustainable approach to health. You
00:27:23
are very much in an all or nothing mindset. But through
00:27:27
Christ centered intuitive eating, when you've learned to listen to your body,
00:27:30
you are now able to
00:27:34
approach your needs and meet your needs in a way that
00:27:38
feels good rather than like out of obligation.
00:27:42
You're maybe exercising regularly, but it's in a way that
00:27:45
is, that feels good to your body instead of a way that
00:27:49
punishes your body. Or you're now eating mindfully. You're
00:27:53
knowing when to stop. Maybe you are, you know,
00:27:56
praying for guidance. When you're making decisions about your health,
00:28:01
you have allowed your weight to stabilize, but more
00:28:04
importantly, you found peace and balance in your lifestyle instead of that
00:28:08
all or nothing burnout that comes with
00:28:12
dieting and weight loss efforts. And
00:28:16
this really highlights that health is more about the more is about
00:28:19
more than the physical appearance. It's about finding that balance and
00:28:23
honoring God in the way that you were caring for your body.
00:28:27
And this is where you know, this Christ centered intuitive eating
00:28:31
is really unique compared to just
00:28:34
conventional intuitive eating. But
00:28:38
for so long, I know, myself included, you have
00:28:42
probably once viewed your health journey as, and maybe you
00:28:46
still do view your health journey as something that's completely separate from your
00:28:49
faith. Remember, in an early
00:28:53
podcast episode, the number one thing missing from your
00:28:56
health and wellness plan is your faith.
00:29:01
But now, through Christ's intuitive eating, you've learned
00:29:04
how to integrate your faith with your health.
00:29:08
And that is key and crucial to be able to turn
00:29:12
to God and asking him to guide your choices,
00:29:16
asking him to help show you how to steward and be
00:29:20
a good steward of your body, of your health, of
00:29:24
your mind and your soul. Your health journey is
00:29:27
no longer disconnected from your spiritual life.
00:29:31
It's actually entwined, intertwined.
00:29:35
Kind of reminds me of the grapevine, right from the true
00:29:38
vine parable about how
00:29:43
Jesus is the vine and we are the branches and God is the vine
00:29:46
grower, and how if we are cut off from Jesus,
00:29:50
then we are not getting the nourishment that we need. We wouldn't be
00:29:54
healthy grapes on the vine. And then we have God the Father, who is
00:29:57
taking care of all of us.
00:30:01
So through this Christ centered intuitive eating, you're able
00:30:05
to grow this deeper spiritual connection, and it's brought
00:30:09
a sense of peace to your physical, mental, emotional
00:30:12
and spiritual well being. And I think this particular
00:30:16
transformation, being able to integrate your faith
00:30:20
with your health and wellness efforts, is a beautiful reminder
00:30:23
that God really and truly cares about every aspect
00:30:27
of your life, every aspect of your
00:30:31
life. So I just want to take a minute and kind of
00:30:35
summarize what these before and afters may look like.
00:30:38
So before intuitive eating, you're either being quote
00:30:42
unquote good or bad with food and after
00:30:46
you view food as morally neutral and don't tie food
00:30:49
decisions to self worth before intuitive
00:30:53
eating, you can't keep your favorite foods in the house
00:30:57
while after you can keep any food in the house without obsessing or
00:31:00
binging before you
00:31:04
feel guilty after eating quote unquote junk food or high calorie
00:31:08
sugar fat carb foods while after you enjoy eating
00:31:11
without guilt no matter what it is that you were eating
00:31:15
before constantly worried about what is
00:31:19
okay to eat, what your next meal is going to be,
00:31:22
or what it is that you ate and after you
00:31:26
no longer obsess over food rules or restrictions
00:31:30
before you often eat until you're overfull or
00:31:34
bloated and after you focus on eating until
00:31:37
you're comfortably full and choosing satisfying foods
00:31:42
before you're always choosing the lowest calorie option
00:31:46
after you're no longer counting calories, macros, or
00:31:50
points and you're making food choices based off of what will be
00:31:53
nourishing and satisfying and supports your food
00:31:57
preferences before
00:32:00
you regularly eat emotionally due to stress, boredom,
00:32:04
anxiety, frustration, loneliness, or sadness
00:32:08
after you use tools other than food to manage
00:32:11
emotions, addressing them with healthy strategies
00:32:16
before intuitive eating, you experience binge
00:32:19
episodes, especially with off limit foods. Well
00:32:23
after you no longer binge and
00:32:26
you're able to enjoy your favorite foods in quantities that feel
00:32:30
good before
00:32:34
you feel like you can't stop snacking after
00:32:38
you eat regular meals and snacks and you're able to stop when you're
00:32:41
satisfied before you're depending on a quote
00:32:45
unquote expert to tell you what to eat
00:32:49
after you trust your body and personal knowledge to
00:32:52
decide what and when to eat
00:32:56
before you miss out on experiences
00:33:00
involving quote unquote unhealthy foods with friends and family
00:33:04
after you're able to enjoy social meals
00:33:08
without food worries and you're able to create memories with friends
00:33:11
and family before
00:33:15
you feel the need to compensate for what you ate through
00:33:18
exercise or restriction
00:33:22
after you know there's no need to compensate for eating any food.
00:33:26
Exercising is more about enjoyment and health
00:33:29
before you worry about how foods will affect your
00:33:33
weight after you no longer stress about how food
00:33:37
affects your weight and you're trusting that God's creation will
00:33:41
help you find the weight that your body feels good at
00:33:45
before you feel overwhelmed by
00:33:49
mixed nutritional messages and after
00:33:53
you understand what supports your health without being
00:33:56
influenced by conflicting media messages
00:34:00
before you're either on a diet
00:34:04
or eating everything or after you never feel the
00:34:08
need to diet again. But you're also able to stop eating
00:34:12
when you're comfortably full and satisfied.
00:34:16
Before you're only focused on what you can't eat
00:34:20
after you add foods that support health without
00:34:24
restriction, and before you avoid certain
00:34:28
food groups. Well, after embracing intuitive eating, you're able to eat a
00:34:31
balanced variety of foods to support blood sugar stability.
00:34:37
So these are real examples of what success with Christ centered
00:34:40
intuitive eating looks like. Not in the way the world
00:34:44
defines success, but in a way that aligns with God's plan for your
00:34:48
life. You can find peace and joy and balance in your
00:34:51
relationship with food and your body, which ultimately allows you to grow
00:34:55
closer to God in the process. So if any of these
00:34:59
stories resonated with you, I encourage you to reflect on your own health
00:35:02
journey. Are you just wanting the thin body or
00:35:06
do you want a healthy body? What would success
00:35:10
